Every individual requires some minimum quantity of the vitamins and nutrients to maintain good health. The quantity of the nutrients required depends upon many factors like age, condition, gender, etc. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), every individual requires 20 nutrients daily based on the nutrient type, gender and age of the person.
The men above forty years old have different requirements for vitamins and minerals in their diet than others. The major reasons for death in males over 40 are cancer and heart diseases. Some other problems include pneumonia, kidney problems, strokes, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, unintentional injuries and constant lower respiratory problems. Most of these problems can be addressed with satisfactory health care and proper nutrition. This article will focus on the different types of vitamins that can be helpful for the men at the age of forty:
  • Coenzyme Q10 – It is a compound usually found in the cell mitochondria. The body needs this compound to produce energy and impel other biological functions, together with the tightening of muscles and producing proteins. When the males are over 40, their body usually benefits from this compound. Its supplement can play a big role in preventing and treating heart problems, high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes, high cholesterol, all of which are listed under the main causes of death in males over 40. It can be consumed through fatty fish like salmon & tuna or can be taken in the form of oral sprays, capsules and tablets.

  • Boron – It is a chemical that occurs naturally in the environment. Increased consumption of this chemical in the diet can help in reducing the risk of prostate cancer. The old people are more prone to prostate cancer. Boron can be consumed in the form of various supplements and also found in the animal tissues.

  • Vitamin D & Calcium – Vitamin D and calcium are the important nutrients needed in larger quantities as an individual gets older. They can be consumed through the supplemental pills and foods. Vitamin D can be prepared in the skin when the skin is exposed to direct sunlight. If one cannot sit in the direct sunlight for enough time, some supplemental pills can be taken instead. Calcium can be consumed through fat free dairy products, dark green vegetables, cereals and fortified juices. The bones use the vitamin D and calcium to maintain health and strength.

  • Omega 3 fatty acids – Omega 3 fatty acid is necessary for good health of heart. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases in the old aged people. Fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. One has to make sure that this acid is taken in the form of food or supplemental pills, after consulting a good and experienced physician or medical practitioner.

These vitamins can greatly help the males over 40 to reduce the risk of many diseases that can otherwise occur easily at this age. However, consumption of any of the supplemental pills should be started only after consulting a physician.
